And if you're thinking of playing the open beta of PSO2 from Asiasoft, you're definitely going to have a bad time.ĮDIT: Upon further reading this thread, I just found that the thread posted by Edward was fake and is posed by a gimmick account! But it was very convincing as was laid off from Sega of America few months ago. If you're still interested in playing PSO2 there are plenty of resources to get you started. Seriously, Sega of America today truly does not care about it's customers and it's going to bite them in the behind in the long run because they don't like taking the risk of making the wrong type of money. The game was exceeded expectations in Sega Japan and made them loads of money because the game was great! But no, they turned lazy because it would not sell as well as a latest Sonic title. The game was done, all localized, they could have done at least some basic marketing or even at least translate the Japanese ads as English Subtitles instead of just giving up. It's basically a end result of the all the crap they pulled to North American since the original PSO in the Dreamcast. Now PR and Community Relationship person (now retired from his role) finally revealed what North Americans PSO gamers knew and expected on well known PSO community website "PSO-World": It was stealth canceled: īasically, Sega of America realized that if it does not sell as well as the latest Call of Duty title (the most recent one is Call of Duty: Ghost), it was not worth it. And they did it by denying that the game is canceled, saying that it was delayed over and over again.Įventually, North Americans have wised up and realized that the game will never be released to their shores and accepted it (by embracing the Japanese version). The game itself was ready to launched.īut then suddenly they decided despite the work they did, they decided to cancel it. There was even a display on PAX East, all localized and ready to be launched. So when PSO2 was planning to be released by Sega of America around last year, they got excited. As a PSO2 gamer it has successfully sucked my time away from Battlefield 3 and I enjoyed the game immensely! It's basically what the original PSO should've been ten years ago and a whole lot more we did not expect. #Phantasy star online 2 western release cancelled series#I can tell you as a veteran of the Dreamcast and Xbox PSO games that it's more fast paced than the previous series and it seems like they've taken the best aspects of the all the previous PSO series including Phantasy Star Universe and Phantasy Star Zero and put them in a online game. It's the successor (not a sequel) to the original Phantasy Star Online series for the Dreamcast, Gamecube, Xbox, and PC. Phantasy Star Online 2 was launched in Japan on July 2012. ![]()
